A Play, a Pie and a Pint

“arguably the best-value cultural event in the country”

And the winner is…

Monday, March 8, 2010

Congratulations to Derek West who has been chosen as the winner of this weeks Critics' Circle competition! And we do hope you enjoy your bottle of Malt! Here is the review of 'The Shattered Head' that Derek submitted: Deconstructing the head of the sculptor: The first intelligible sound Paolozzi makes [locked by stroke and wheelchair to his personal demons] is 'No', echoing his long denial of dead dad and sublimated in life by art that has accentuated distortion and ugliness.' It takes all the efforts of a composite female character [Louise Ludgate multi-tasking superbly as Care Assistant, sexually-compliant student, patron, outspoken cousin] to persuade him to re-enter his life even as it draws to a close. Ludgate's versatility is intensely focused and is a perfect foil to Michael Mackenzie's vividly-tortured soul. Affecting, life-affirming in 45 minutes flat! And remember if you're coming along to see 'Soup' this week get writing your reviews for the site and you could be our next winner!

Thank you Douglas! Unfortunately no free pie, however if you team your excellent punctuation with a good review of the play for our Critics’ Circle, you could be in for a chance of getting a free bottle of Malt! Hope you enjoy the show.
