Congratulations to David Cruickshanks who has been chosen as the winner of the Critics' Circle Competition for his review of Only the Lonely.
Here is the winning review:
Never have two arm chairs provided the focus for so much drama. Di Mambro’s domestic tug of love needs the minimum of props; relying instead on exemplary dialogue and acting to carry a poignant reminder; love and loss are inextricably linked.
Libby McArthur is often seen hamming it up on TV but her smile at the very end of the play is so definitive that we are applauding before the lights dim. Alan McHugh as the overprotective son was so raw I wanted to cuddle him. Anne Kidd as Sopranos loving Widow was subversion of pensioner stereotypes at its best.
If you are coming along to see this week's play Thank You, don't forget to leave a review and you could be the winner of a fine bottle of malt.
