Actors / Directors

Casting Policy

A Play, A Pie and A Pint prides itself in working with existing talent within the Scottish theatre industry, as well as helping to establish the careers of emerging, professional actors, writers and directors. We believe it is important to provide opportunities for artists from a variety of backgrounds. We are keen to meet with as many professional actors working and living in Scotland and strive to give opportunities to as many people as we possibly can.

As well as holding auditions for specific roles, we regularly hold general auditions to meet professional actors who we haven’t worked with before. The auditions take place at Òran Mór and anybody who wishes to be considered for these auditions can email casting@playpiepint.comexpressing their interest. Please include a CV, headshot and spotlight link (if applicable).

General Meetings

We regularly hold general auditions as well as general meetings, where professional actors can arrange to meet with our team to discuss future opportunities. We not only set up general meetings via agents, we arrange general meetings with professional actors who do not currently have agent representation, as we believe it is important to connect with professional actors at all stages of their careers.

As well as holding general auditions, we have open auditions to allow professional actors the chance to connect with our team. Priority will be given to professional actors who we have not worked with before. Information regarding our open auditions will be posted on our website and on our social media channels.

Casting Process

The producers work closely with each director to help cast each of our productions. We produce 35 plays across the full year and on average we work with just under 100 actors every year.  We regularly hold auditions to cast specific roles in each of our shows across both our Spring and Autumn season. Actors who we have met via general auditions and general meetings are frequently invited in to audition for specific roles in each of our plays.

Attending Shows

Our team regularly attend a wide range of different performances to allow us the chance to see and meet performers working across the Scottish theatre industry. If you have a show coming up that you would like us to attend, you can email the information to and one of our team will try to make it along to your event.

Rehearsal Process

Each of our productions rehearse for two weeks, which is followed by a week-long run at Òran Mór. We work in association with the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh, The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen and The Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock. Many of our productions tour to one or more of these venues after finishing at Òran Mór.
