By William McIlvanney | Directed By Gillies MacKinnon
Featuring Iain Robertson
On the Sidelines by Willie McIlvanney appeared in the very first season of A Play, A Pie and A Pint back in Autumn 2004. As a tribute to Willie, who died last year, we are reviving this gem of a play –
After 16 years of marriage John Mitchell finds himself living alone in a shabby rented bedsit, an estranged husband and father now living ‘on the sidelines’ between a past he can’t return to and a future he can’t share. Then there’s the trag-comic events of a new love life.. a familiar situation? …”When Willie McIlvanney sharpens his pen things are never quite ordinary… makes for a wonderfully confident and pleasurable theatrical experience”
Renowned poet, novelist and short story writer, Willie was a great supporter of Play,Pie and Pint and we were delighted he wrote several plays for the Oran Mor including “The Prisoner’ and ‘Night Out’.
