A bold and life-affirming comedy-drama about an unlikely friendship between three men in recovery from addiction.
Donny lives with his mum and has been struggling with addiction most of his life. He also has a secret hobby…dancing alone in his bedroom.
Determined to get help, Donny attends his local support group where he bonds with two other men, Jay and Craig, who change his life. But when a video of Donny dancing goes up online and makes him an accidental viral superstar, the men’s new friendship is put to the test with the whole world now watching on.
Dancing Shoes is a life-affirming comedy-drama about isolation, support groups and bedroom dancing that challenges how we treat the most vulnerable people in society.

Graeme Smith has always had a passion for words and stories. He completed an MLitt in 2016 and is a published short-story writer. He taught creative writing in a prison, and in lockdown turned his attention to the stage. His first play The Scaff, written with collaborator and old pal Stephen Christopher, was performed at last year’s A Play, A Pie and A Pint. He is inspired by hearing stories from those we don’t usually hear from, hazy memories of youth, James Kelman, and the Scottish psyche.
Stephen Christopher discovered his passion for storytelling and dramatic writing through a creative writing group for people in recovery. This newfound love for writing led him to the Traverse Theatre's Launchpad: Breakthrough and the Playwrights' Studio Mentorship program. Dancing Shoes marks Stephen’s second collaboration with close friend Graeme Smith, following their play The Scaff, which was featured in A Play, A Pie and A Pint. Stephen’s writing is inspired by family history, addiction, dance music, Scottish football and Sunday night television.
