An elemental theatrical conflict by Peter Arnott, celebrating his 40 years in Scottish theatre.
Who, or what, is the Prisoner?
The Inquisitor wants the Prisoner to talk and will say and promise anything in return to get answers…or any response at all.
A battle of wills ensues between the Inquisitor and the Prisoner, between faith and reason, between the power of speech and unbreakable silence.
First staged in 2007, The Inquisitor is an elemental theatrical conflict by the award-winning writer Peter Arnott (The Signalman), in celebration of his 40 years in Scottish theatre.
Born in Glasgow in 1962, Peter Arnott is the writer of about 50 professionally produced stage plays starting with White Rose (Traverse Theatre) and The Boxer Benny Lynch (Mayfest) in 1985. Eight of these shows have been for A Play, A Pie and A Pint, including Face and Janis Joplin: Full Tilt as well as 2019’s The Signalman which won CATS Awards for Best Actor and Best New Play. He has been Writer in Residence at the Tron Theatre and the Traverse Theatre as well as at The National Library of Scotland and with the Genomics Forum and IASH at Edinburgh University. His novel, Moon Country, was published by Vagabond Voices in 2015.
