PPP wins The Herald Culture Awards 2019 Contribution to Scottish Culture
Òran Mór’s A Play A Pie and A Pint receives the Special Contribution to Scottish Culture Award at the Herald Culture Awards 2019
The very best of the Scottish cultural scene gathered last night at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange to celebrate the wealth of the country’s talent. The awards recognise all the achievements of Scottish Culture across all genres and celebrates all that’s best in our vibrant cultural scene.
On the night the judges presented the Special Contribution to Scottish Culture award to A Play, A Pie and A Pint, which tops off what is already a very special year with the momentous landmark of having produced 500 plays.
Based at Òran Mór in the West End of Glasgow, A Play, a Pie and a Pint produces the most new-writing of any theatre in the UK. Founded by the late David MacLennan in 2004, the theatre company now yields 35 new plays, running for 42 weeks of the year. “MacLennan could hardly have imagined just how successful his initiative would be” (The Scotsman)
Òran Mór’s Colin Beattie said “it is important to me that we continue to support PPP and I am delighted to accept this award. When we created Òran Mór our main objective was to bring together the visual arts, theatre, literature and music, making them available to us, the ordinary guy. This award further cements our philosophy of ‘Arts for All – All Year Round.”
