It’s Christmas Day. Our main protagonist is presented with a puppy from his boyfriend and he’s fuming. He never wanted this but how can you say no to a puppy?
Slowly but surely the newly christened “Jack” wears down his resistance, until a tragic event sends him spiralling on a path of self-destruction with booze, hook-ups, and the Virgin Mary.

LIAM MOFFAT is a writer based in Edinburgh. He was part of the Traverse Theatre's Breakthrough Writers:In Residence programme (2022-23) and is delighted to be making his professional writing debut with A Play, A Pie and A Pint.
GARETH NICHOLLS is Artistic Director of the Traverse Theatre. For the Traverse, his directed shows include The Grand Old Opera House Hotel, Wilf, Still and Crocodile Fever. Other productions include Kidnapped (NTS); Trainspotting, Blackbird, Into That Darkness and Vanya (Citizens Theatre).
His work has toured extensively across the UK as well as transferring to Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and USA. Gareth has won numerous awards including five Scotsman Fringe Firsts, Three CATS Awards (Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland) and a Carol Tambour Best of Edinburgh Award. Previously, he was Main-Stage Director In Residence at the Citizens Theatre, Artist In Residence at Imaginate International Children’s Festival and an Emerging Artist at the National Theatre of Scotland.
LAWRENCE BOOTHMAN holds an MA in Acting from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, thanks to an RCS Scholarship and the John Mather Trust Award. Selected stage credits include: Gordon in Ode To Joy (How Gordon got to go to the Nasty pig party) (Sydney Festival), Filov in The Brief Life & Mysterious Death of Boris III, King of Bulgaria (Edinburgh Fringe/Arcola Theatre), Emile in The Devil Drinks Cava (A Play, A Pie & A Pint), Cassius in Julius Caesar (Scottish Tour) and Lebeau in Arthur Miller’s Incident At Vichy (Finborough Theatre).
