The Scaff

An epic and nostalgic comedy about a group of misfits who plot the worst football tackle of all time.

Liam plays football at school with a close-knit group of lads who decide to enact revenge when they find out that he has been called the worst thing ever – a ‘Scaff’.

When the scheme fails and ends up severely injuring the star striker, the consequences rip apart not only the boys’ friendship but the entire school.

With a cup final looming, Liam must find a way to bring everyone back together for the win.

Co-presented with Traverse Theatre.

STEPHEN CHRISTOPHER started writing at a creative writing group for people in recovery, discovering a passion for storytelling and community. It was here he found the joy of dramatic writing, going on to secure a place in The Traverse Launchpad: Breakthrough group.

He was a part of the Playwright Studio’s mentorship programme 2022, working with Chris Hannan to develop his next play Death Party, a story about fathers, sons and broken guitar strings. Stephen’s work is inspired by family history, addiction, synths, Scottish football and Sunday night television.

GRAEME SMITH completed a MA in Creative Writing from The University of Dundee, going on to teach ESOL and creative writing in a prison.  He currently works for a university. He previously wrote dark and funny short stories before turning his creativity towards the stage. The Scaff is a project that began at the tail-end of lockdown and Graeme is delighted to have his first play showing at A Play, A Pie and A Pint.
